The Ateneo de Manila University -- a Filipino, Catholic, and Jesuit University, founded in 1859 -- seeks to preserve, extend, and communicate truth and apply it to human development and the preservation of the environment. Its Department of Fine Arts upholds artistic excellence shaped by a rigorous practice of craft, a critical appreciation of theory and history, and a heightened sense of imagination and expression. Moreover, it values all these in the context of the Filipino sensibility and service to others. Within this Department, the Theater Arts Program exposes students to the range of theater activities, onstage and offstage, stimulating their imagination with a wide repertoire of skills, an ability to collaborate within and across disciplines as well as nations, and a passion to connect with global and local issues. By doing so, the program hopes to increase the number of trained and socially conscious persons in professional and community theater or in film, radio, or television.
